The open evening on 23rd March was very succesful and we welcomed visitors including members of other groups.
Rebecca Gorman Norfolk Coordinator for Project Linus told us what happens to many of our Norfolk made quilts including: children in hospital; Haven refuges for abused women and children; a BREAK hostel for children with complex learning and other needs, and the Gateway project begun by the Bishop of Norwich for refugee children escaping horrific danger, in addition to individal requests. Quilts were handed over to her made by Hackers members and Castle Quilters, the latter brought in by former long term members, Freda and Wendy.
Rob from Sew and So's in Bungay gave us an update on the work at the orphanage in Thailand which he and Verona support so generously and tirelessly. Not only have they bought new beds and fittings for a kitchen since last visiting us but Rob was asked to send a Father Christmas outfit to this Chritian establishment, needless to say this cost three times as much to post as to purchase. He also brought wonderful fabrics which those of us who lack will power gave in to temptation and purchased.
Thank you to all involved including: those who provided refreshments and raffle prizes; those who made and served tea, coffee and biscuits; Christine whose idea it was, for selling raffle tickets; Julian Horn for the photographs ; preparation and clearing up afterwards and everyone for spending money and giving so freely. £80 was raised to be divided between the two charities.
