Zip top purse
Material lining and wadding 11” x 6”
6” heavy duty zip if possible with a pull tab.
Cut out material, wadding and lining 10½” x 5¼”.
If just quilting layer together, find a circle which will fit the 5¼” top of purse roughly a 5” circle (I used a saucer)
Use the circle to round the top of the material. Quilt.
If you want to embellish, put an insertion, appliqué or other do this before you layer.
Before you start fold the top material in half, mark the fold; remember that there will be a gusset in the bottom so discount the bottom ¾”above the fold then centre your design. Layer then quilt.
Cut 1½” bias binding. Bind all around.
Pin the zip in on the inside of the purse, sew the lower edge of the zip with a slip stitch, then sew near to the teeth with a back stitch. Avoid sewing through the top layer of material.
On the inside sew together the sides then make a gusset at the bottom sew down the triangles made from the gusset.
